Consultation for Diagnosis
  • Consult an expert in forensic examination.
  • Consult law enforcement to obtain authorization for a forensic sexual assault examination if applicable.

Consult an expert in forensic examination. B

  • If available, contact the local sexual assault response team.
  • Ensure that all members of the sexual assault response team are activated, including the examiner (usually a sexual assault nurse examiner), a patients' advocate, and law enforcement.
  • Consult an expert for guidance when an untrained physician must complete the forensic examination in a case where a forensic examiner is unavailable.
  • For remote history that does not dictate an immediate examination, refer the patient to a mental health expert and advocate service for follow-up.
