Rationale:
- Patients may experience traumatic injuries that warrant evaluation and admission to treat or watch for internal bleeding.
- Patients may suffer from a new or preexisting medical condition (e.g., sepsis or DKA) that now requires inpatient management.
- Rarely, patients may have a suicidal, homicidal, or psychotic reaction after a sexual assault that must be addressed with
hospitalization.
- Patients with preexisting psychiatric disorders may be at increased risk for severe reactions.
