  • Provide patients with:
    • Resources and referral numbers from local or national crisis agencies that discuss appropriate consent for sexual relationships for both men and women
    • Materials from local or national crisis agencies describing the prevalence of sexual assault and risk factors such as alcohol use
    • Information about behaviors they can adopt to decrease their chances of being sexually assaulted or becoming perpetrators of sexual assault
  • Understand appropriate legal definitions of sexual assault (see American Prosecutors Research Institute State Rape Statutes).
