- Consider consultation with a rheumatologist in complex patients with presumed gout for:
- Help in confirming the accuracy of the diagnosis
- Management of recurrent acute gouty attacks
- Choice of uric acid-lowering therapy
- Management of other concurrent arthritides
- Consider consultation with a nephrologist for help in managing patients with renal inufficiency or urate nephropathy and its implications for drug therapy.
