Inform patients that some underlying conditions may predispose them to recurrent infections. B

  • Instruct patients who have diabetes mellitus about foot care and prevention of infection (see Prevention of plantar ulcers in diabetic patients.)
  • Warn patients who have chronic venous stasis that they are predisposed to recurrent cellulitis and should remain alert to any early signs of infection.
  • Inform patients with saphenous vein donor site infections about the early signs of infection.
  • Instruct patients with chronic lymphedema after mastectomy or radical prostatectomy who are treated with radiation therapy about the early signs of cellulitis.
