Hospitalize persons with severe dehydration or those with signs of severe disease or liver failure, including elevated prothrombin time, encephalopathy, or hepatorenal syndrome. |
- Hospitalize for:
- Inability to maintain oral hydration and nutrition due to nausea, vomiting, and anorexia
- Mental status changes
- Elevated prothrombin time due to acute liver failure
- Azotemia (dehydration vs. hepatorenal syndrome)
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Evaluation for liver transplantation
