Hospitalize persons with severe dehydration or those with signs of severe disease or liver failure, including elevated prothrombin time, encephalopathy, or hepatorenal syndrome.C

  • Hospitalize for:
    • Inability to maintain oral hydration and nutrition due to nausea, vomiting, and anorexia
    • Mental status changes
    • Elevated prothrombin time due to acute liver failure
    • Azotemia (dehydration vs. hepatorenal syndrome)
    • Gastrointestinal bleeding
    • Evaluation for liver transplantation
