Consult a pulmonologist and utilize other resources if diagnostic uncertainty exists or HbCO determination is unavailable and deemed necessary. |
- Consult an intensivist or pulmonologist for the patient with complex symptoms that could be attributed to multiple disease processes.
- Consult a toxicologist or poison information center if there is uncertainty about the diagnosis.
- Consult a larger emergency department or hospital to perform HbCO determination if it is not available at the healthcare facility that the patient initially presents to and if the result would change patient management.
