Know that the risk of type 2 diabetes is significantly increased among patients with a first-degree family member with a history of diabetes.B

Evidence:

  • A recent review of the literature found that the risk of type 2 diabetes is increased by 2 to 3.5 times in persons who have one parent with diabetes and by 2.5 to 6 times in those who have two parents with diabetes (9).
